One walk, three moments

The same few streets of Paris, before, during and after a twenty-minute walk.

1

Start with a grey city

Your map shows every building around you. The ones you have never walked past stay grey.

2

Walk anywhere

To the café, to work, or nowhere in particular. Buildings within 35 metres of you turn gold as you pass.

3

Keep your map

Every walk adds to the last one. Open the map later and pick the streets you have not seen yet.

See your city fill in, district by district

Your city is split into neighbourhoods, and each one shows how much of it you have walked.

Districts

Progress for every neighbourhood, so you can see where you live, and where you never go.

Gems

Interesting places and landmarks around the city, waiting on streets you haven't walked yet.

Friends

Compare your maps with friends on a leaderboard and see who knows the city best.

Achievements

Milestones for new streets, districts and cities. Share your map when you reach one.

Works in your city

Buildings come from OpenStreetMap, so Walkable works wherever you walk. These cities have neighbourhoods mapped by hand.

Questions people ask

Does it drain my battery?

Walkable asks for a new location only after you have moved about 35 metres, so it uses less power than keeping a map open. Leave the app in the background and keep the screen off while you walk.

Does running or cycling count?

Walking and running count. Driving and cycling are filtered out using your phone's motion sensors, so the map shows where you have been on foot.

Why does it need location access all the time?

So it can record your walk while the phone is in your pocket and locked. You can browse the map without it and change the setting later.

What happens if I change phones?

Turn on backup in Profile, then Settings, then Backup. Sign in on the new phone with the same account and your map comes back.

Does it work in my city?

Yes, if your city has buildings on OpenStreetMap, which almost every city does. Neighbourhood progress is most detailed in the cities listed above.

How much mobile data does it use?

A few megabytes per walk. Buildings are downloaded in small pieces when you reach a new area and kept on your phone.

Your next walk starts at the front door.
